Diabetes is a disease that is rapidly on the rise today. A lot of people are diagnosed to have it each day. Whether you have a recent diagnosis, if you're already dealing with it or if you fear that you may have it, this article may help you manage your illness by making lifestyle changes to prevent it from worsening. A great breakfast for a Diabetic is oatmeal! Be selective, though! Don't buy the kind that comes in pouches and has tons of salt and sugar in it! Buy quick oats or regular rolled oats. Make it every morning for yourself. Top it with cinnamon and apples for a tasty meal! Diabetics have to watch their carbohydrate intake, and bread is a major player in a typical American's diet. Try to find a bread with at least 5 grams of fiber AND protein per slice so that eating it is validated by the nutrients it's carrying. Also avoid preservatives as they're not healthy either. If you want to eat healthier to help overcome your Diabetes, but you just can't stomach fish without some pops of flavor on it, try capers! They're like olives in their flavor, but smaller and zestier. You can sprinkle them on any type of fish, I like to also add some slices of Spanish onion, and they take the place of sauce. Stress can wreak havoc on a Diabetic's mental health, but it will also cause problems physically as well. Try to do stress-relieving activities like exercise, yoga, or deep breathing exercises at the end of the day or during any situation that is particularly stressful to keep yourself calm, cool, and collected. Be passionate about having Diabetes and become an advocate for the disease. Type II Diabetes is preventable, and it's costing our government billions of dollars in treatment for people who can't afford it. You may not be one of those who are tapping the system for your care, but speaking up about what you know to help others avoid the disease will help us be able to use our money for more important things. To keep from developing diabetes related circulation problems, regularly tap your feet! Foot exercises will keep your blood moving even when you're stuck in a chair. Simply alternate lifting your heels or toes in the air while the other half of your foot remains on the floor. After time, this will become a habit, and keeping your circulation strong will be like second nature to you. Reduce the amount of meat and carbs that you eat to maximize your chance of maintaining good health over time. You can reduce your risk of diabetes by losing weight. The more overweight someone is, the more likely they are to develop type 2 diabetes. If you are someone who is at risk, make sure to change to a healthier diet and start exercising more so that you can prevent this disease. One flavorful spice that diabetics can use, that doesn't contain sugar, sodium or calories, is cinnamon. Cinnamon can also accentuate the natural sweetness of some foods without adding sugar that may raise your blood glucose levels. Studies are mixed as to whether cinnamon can actually lower your glucose levels, but regardless, it is an excellent spice to add. Being diagnosed with diabetes doesn't need to be the worst thing ever. Apply these tips to your life to manage your condition and come out on top in your battle against diabetes.
